Family therapy sessions aim to improve communication and understanding, creating a stronger support network for women during their rehabilitation journey.
Why involve the family
When a woman is struggling, the people closest to her are affected too — often feeling worried, angry, confused or exhausted. At the same time, they can be one of the most important sources of support in her recovery. Family therapy brings these two realities together.
What family sessions can help with
- Understanding addiction or the mental health condition, and how treatment works
- Improving communication and reducing conflict
- Rebuilding trust and setting healthy boundaries
- Recognising warning signs and responding supportively
- Planning together for life after treatment
- Giving relatives space to talk about their own stress and concerns
Who can take part
Sessions can include a spouse, parents, adult children, siblings or other people close to the woman in treatment. Who attends is agreed with her and the therapist.
Keeping families informed
TNI’s published practice includes keeping patients and families updated about progress, with appropriate consent. For families overseas, see our support for international patients.
