Music therapy

Music can help people express what is hard to say in words. Used therapeutically, it supports emotional expression, relaxation and connection.

Why music

Music affects mood, memory and energy. For someone in recovery, structured music-based activities can offer a different route to expressing feelings, reducing stress and connecting with others.

What it can involve

  • Listening to and discussing music that holds meaning
  • Using rhythm and sound for relaxation
  • Writing or choosing lyrics that reflect personal experiences
  • Group activities that build connection and confidence

No musical ability or experience is needed. The focus is on expression and wellbeing, not performance.

A complementary approach

Music-based activities complement the core clinical work of counselling, psychiatric care and family therapy. They are offered as part of an individual plan where appropriate.

To ask whether music therapy can be part of your or your loved one’s care, please contact the TNI team.
